Perseverance in the recruitment process A guide for Graduates

We’ve all heard the phrase “New Year, New Beginnings,” which may be interpreted differently depending on one’s situation; for some, it may imply changing habits, while others may see it as an opportunity to land a new job. Most notably, in the recruitment market, this is when most graduate openings are advertised.

As a recent graduate, I realize how important and daunting this period can be, so I’ve created a guideline to help you navigate the recruitment process with the appropriate mindset and attitude.

Here are some tips:

Navigating a competitive landscape

The job market can be competitive, with many people competing for the same positions. Persistence in tailoring your resume and cover letter to each application is critical, as it will help you stand out from the talent pool. Also, make a point of proactively reaching out to companies and following up on interviews.

Overcoming setbacks

Rejection is an inevitable part of the journey because we cannot control the decisions of others; however, you can control your preparation, attitude, and effort. Instead of taking this personally, see it as an opportunity to learn and improve, handling the situation with grace, taking feedback, not giving up, and continuing the hunt with renewed mind and determination.

Staying motivated

It can be difficult to stay motivated during a job hunt, but keep in mind that getting your dream job will take time and work. It is critical to keep your spirits up, and one method to do so is to visualise your success. This will allow you to stay focused on your goals, maintain a positive attitude, avoid discouragement.

Maintain professionalism.

This is critical for making a good impression and improving your chances of getting the job. Maintain a professional demeanor throughout your interactions. I understand that we all desire rapid response, but persistence should not translate into pestering or demanding behavior. Always approach others with respect and civility, especially in frustrating situations.
