From Real Estate to Recruitment: A New Chapter
My career journey has taken me along many paths, but none have been as fulfilling as my recent transition from real estate to recruitment. Since graduating high school, I felt lost in my search for what truly sparks my passion. I dedicated years to working towards becoming a lead agent in residential real estate, believing this was where my heart lay. However, as I progressed through the industry, I found myself increasingly drawn to the interactions I had with people rather than the properties I was selling.
In my search for clarity, I explored several options, hoping to find the perfect fit. I even considered moving into commercial property, thinking that a different area of real estate might somehow reignite my passion—but it didn’t. I also looked into marketing jobs, as I already had a marketing degree and felt I didn’t have many other options. Yet, with each path I pursued, I felt more confused about what I was truly good at and what I genuinely enjoyed.
During my search for a role in commercial real estate, I connected with a recruiter named Rutherford, who was guiding me through the process. As he worked with me through each interview at the commercial agency, I began to feel like I had someone in my corner, cheering me on. His dedication to helping me succeed sparked my curiosity about his line of work. I found myself more intrigued by what he did than the actual role I was interviewing for, and ended up declined the opportunity. Then, unexpectedly, an opportunity arose in Rutherford’s office and he gave me a call. Today, I’m proud to call Rutherford my colleague.
A Rewarding Experience
The transition to recruitment has been incredibly rewarding, both personally and professionally. In this role, I get to work closely with candidates, understanding their skills, ambitions, and what they seek in their careers. There’s a certain joy in guiding someone towards their next big opportunity, watching their confidence grow, and helping them navigate the sometimes daunting job market.
I found that recruitment was the perfect blend of everything I loved about real estate, but without the focus on selling properties. Just like real estate, recruitment offers incredible variety and a dynamic environment where no two days are the same. I get to meet a diverse range of people, visit different places, and face new opportunities and challenges each day. Whether I’m engaging with candidates or collaborating with clients, there’s always something fresh and exciting to tackle, making the work both interesting and fulfilling.
Equally rewarding is my ability to assist businesses in finding the right talent. By working alongside clients to understand their unique needs, I can connect them with candidates they may not have otherwise found. It feels fantastic to know that I’m contributing to the growth and success of businesses while simultaneously helping individuals achieve their career aspirations. It’s a win-win situation that brings fulfillment to both sides.
Finding Purpose in Recruitment
Reflecting on my journey from residential real estate to recruitment, I realise that it was about more than just a career change; it was about aligning my work with my passion for helping others. Recruitment has become a platform where I can foster meaningful relationships, aid individuals in reaching their goals, and contribute to the success of a business. I’m excited to continue this journey and to see where it leads, knowing that I’m making a positive impact in the lives of others every day.
