From Real Estate to Recruitment
My career journey has taken me through many paths, but none have been as fulfilling as my recent transition from real estate to recruitment. Since graduating high school, I felt lost in my search for what truly ignited my passion. I dedicated years to becoming a lead agent in residential real estate, believing that this was my calling. However, as I progressed, I found myself increasingly drawn to the interactions with people rather than the properties I was selling.
In my quest for clarity, I explored several options, hoping to find the perfect fit. I even considered moving into commercial real estate, thinking that a different area might reignite my enthusiasm—but it didn’t. I also investigated marketing roles, leveraging my degree, but each path left me feeling more confused about what I genuinely enjoyed and where my strengths lay.
During my search for a role in commercial real estate, I connected with a recruiter named Rutherford, who guided me through the process. As he supported me in my interviews, I felt like I had someone in my corner, cheering me on. His dedication to helping me succeed sparked my curiosity about his line of work. Intrigued by recruitment rather than the role itself, I ultimately declined the commercial opportunity. Then, unexpectedly, an opportunity arose in Rutherford’s office, and he called me. Today, I’m proud to call him my colleague.
A Rewarding Experience
The transition to recruitment has been incredibly rewarding, both personally and professionally. In this role, I work closely with candidates to understand their skills, ambitions, and career aspirations. There’s a unique joy in guiding someone towards their next opportunity, watching their confidence grow, and helping them navigate the sometimes-daunting job market.
I found recruitment to be the perfect blend of everything I loved about real estate, without the focus on selling properties. Like real estate, recruitment offers incredible variety and a dynamic environment where no two days are the same. I meet diverse people, visit different places, and face new opportunities and challenges daily. Whether engaging with candidates or collaborating with clients, there’s always something fresh and exciting to tackle, making the work both interesting and fulfilling.
Equally rewarding is my ability to assist businesses in finding the right talent. By working alongside clients to understand their unique needs, I can connect them with candidates they may not have discovered otherwise. It feels fantastic to know that I’m contributing to the growth and success of businesses while helping individuals achieve their career goals. It’s a win-win situation that brings fulfillment to both sides.
Reflections
Reflecting on my journey from residential real estate to recruitment, I realise it was about more than just a career change; it was about aligning my work with my passion for helping others. Recruitment has become a platform where I can foster meaningful relationships, aid individuals in reaching their goals, and contribute to the success of businesses.
I’m excited to continue this journey and see where it leads, knowing that I’m making a positive impact in the lives of others every day.

I wrote a blog in January this year about “The importance for being prepared for online interviews” and my next blog is on “What Not to Say in a Job Interview”. The number of times I have heard these statements below really do make me cringe. You are a great candidate so please, please, please, […]
In the fast-paced world of recruitment, success isn’t measured by how many roles you fill—it’s about the right fit. A good recruiter doesn’t just match resumes to job descriptions; they connect people with opportunities that genuinely align with their skills, values, and career goals. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the perfect candidate thrive in […]

Filtering the valuable from the noise, a valuable leadership skill. Most of us recognise how crucial our digestive system is for maintaining good health. You just need to do a quick search on ‘gut health’ to see how important it is to overall health. But have you ever considered the need for a similar system […]
