Before I started at Optimum, I always thought that company values were all optics and no substance. 6 months in, I’ve realised how wrong I was and how important they are for setting you up for success. Not only have the following values helped me to excel in my role, but they make our team and workplace somewhere you can be proud to be part of.
Hardwork, Resilience and Reward
Recruitment isn’t easy. The highs are incredibly high, and the lows are very low, and the only constant is uncertainty. You can’t control the rollercoaster, but you can ensure that every day you come to work wanting to work hard, knowing that hard work is the key to success. You can also build up your resilience, knowing that every setback is just a learning experience to take in your stride while keep moving forward. When you combine the two, you can push forward and achieve any goals you set.
Decency
Have you ever been to a job interview and just never heard back from anyone? It’s not a great feeling, is it? In Recruitment, and with any industry, it is essential to treat everyone with decency and respect. Be honest, transparent, listen and say thank you. It doesn’t take a lot, but it means the world. Be decent and you will build strong relationships.
Opportunity
Seize every opportunity you can, and when there isn’t one – create one. Recruitment isn’t about pushing people into jobs they don’t want. It’s about finding the right fit. So whether it is sourcing for the perfect candidate, or assisting a candidate in securing their dream job, I truly feel like I can create opportunities that can change lives.
Passion
Make sure you are working somewhere that when you wake up every day you want to be there. I love meeting new people. I love learning about their experience, skills and aspirations and I love seeing them end up in a job that they thrive in. Being passionate and present about your job will make sure that you wake up excited every day to go to work and ensures you get the best out of each moment when you are there. Will everything always go to plan? – no, of course not, but what will remain is the reason you love what you do.
Strength in Team
Never have I ever felt so supported, both from my direct manager and all my other colleagues. They are always happy to help and vice versa. Teamwork and the collaboration and communication that come with it are critical for both a successful and enjoyable working environment.
After six months in recruiting, not only can I say that I have found my niche but that through embracing our company values of hard work, resilience, decency, opportunity, passion, and teamwork, I am in a better place physically and mentally than I have ever been before. I am excited to see where my recruitment journey will take me. But I know no matter where it does, these values will be something I always strive for.
